Note: This function constitutes the lifeblood of the NAACP—fighting
discrimination. We receive a constant stream of calls from
citizens who believe that they are victims of discrimination.
We have a most urgent need for volunteers to help us respond
in a timely fashion to these calls.
- Membership Recruitment:
- Participate in membership drives and rallies
- Process memberships received
- Recruit family and friends as members
- Start your own life membership
- Keep your own membership current
- Serve as the NAACP membership contact at your church
- Youth Council Assistance:
- Serve as a Youth Council advisor\
- Get your children--especially teens--involved in Youth
Council activities
- Encourage establishment of youth councils in churches and
schools
- Support a number of youth memberships
- Transport youth for Youth Council activities
- Provide financial support for Youth Council activities
- Public Relations:
- Assemble and publish a newsletter for the Branch
- Write articles for publication in local newspapers
- Design and distribute flyers to promote Branch events
- Work with Branch officers and chairs to determine publicity
needs
- Help organize a speakers’ bureau
- Serve as a speakers’ bureau volunteer
- Health Care:
- Establish and staff a Health Care committee
- Recruit health care professionals as committee members
- Organize and schedule wellness topics presentations
- Distribute health information materials to members
- Serve as a Branch liaison on community committees focused
on health care issues
- Serve as a speakers’ bureau volunteer with focus
on health issues
- Political Action:
- Establish and staff a Political Action Committee
- Organize and implement voter registration drives
- Coordinate Get-Out-the-Vote efforts
- Plan voter education events
- Establish and maintain contacts with local political figures
- Study and report on impacts of legislative decisions
- Freedom Fund
- Plan events that raise funds to support Branch operations
- Create and track budgets for fund raisers
- Organize and implement fund raisers
- Coordinate supportive auxiliary efforts at fund raising
events
- Volunteer to work at fund raising events
- Research and report on implementation steps for new ideas
for raising funds
- Office Support:
- Staff the office for a regular schedule of hours per week
- Perform typical office filing and typing/computing functions
- Answer incoming calls and process calls from the voice
messaging service
- Refer calls to appropriate officers and committee chairs
- Mail membership materials to inquirers
- Complete initial complaint forms for citizens
